Today I made a connection stop in Chicago, a stop that used to be my destination for many trips, and was my home for many years. Today also marks my 10th year in the United States. Ten years ago this day, a very different me landed at this precise airport.
From then on that little person has lived many places and called each of them home with utmost sincerity. And that person, for better or worse, has evolved into what is me.
Right before boarding the plane I was able to breathe the outside air for two seconds. I said hi to that air. And the air that was ten years ago.
There is a saying in Chinese, 处处无家处处家.
“Nowhere is really my home so everywhere is.”
